My Boy! (Free/Premium $4.99)

I think it’s only right that we start this list with the best emulator of all (for Android). And it’s none other than My Boy! which is a really impressive app that comes with a load of features. There’s the free version which works just fine and is also packed with features. It can play most games for the GBA and there’s the option to adjust the game speed if you prefer it to be slower (or faster). You may not know this but speeding up a game can help you get thru text-heavy role playing games and if there are a few tricky spots that depend largely on timing then being able to slow it down can really come in handy. You can also set up the control layout which will enable you to play your very best.

But all the good stuff gets even better when you opt for the paid version which is available on Google Play for $4.99. Granted, it’s a bit expensive for an app. However it may be well worth every penny. You get a much higher fast forward speeds, you will have the ability to save several profiles which you can use for screen arrangements and then you also have the ability to save your game any time you like. With the screen arrangements, I really think the button layout is very useful especially for RPGs because you can reconfigure quickly any time the need arises.

GBA.Emu(Premium $4.99/Free if you get it from another developer)

The GBA.emu is another cool emulator that also has most of the features of the My Boy!. Another feature it has is that it allows you to work in either landscape or portrait orientation, whatever you feel is more comfortable for you when you’re playing on your phone. If you’re space conscious, you’ll be happy with the GBA.emu’s ability to play not only .gba files but you can also play them in their unextracted .zip state. Your android device can load up more ROMs without having to fill up your hard drive.

This emulator can be purchased on Google Play for $4.99. It’s made by Robert Broglia however you can also get the free version from V Android and it comes with a free public domain as well.

MyGBA (Free)

I really like the MyGBA emulator which is available on APK pure free of charge. It’s built on Gameboid emulator which is open source and it has a lot of fans. It’s reliable enough but it lacks some of the nice features found in other premium emulators for Android. It doesn’t have speed controls and there’s no cheat menu. This may not matter so much if you don’t like to play those very old games however they do help if you require replayability.

RetroArch Plus GBA Emulator (Free)

This GBA emulator for Android is a free app and it’s a no-frill emulator that works decently. It lacks all those bells and whistles of other emulators however you can save your game any time you need to.

ClassicBoy (Free)

Many players found it hard to believe how good this emulator is, considering that it doesn’t cost anything to download and use it. You can customize your controls, offers support for external joysticks and it can also emulate games for other systems not just the GBA. You can play ROMs for NES, Genesis, N64, and PS1 to name a few.
